Raphinha showcased his skill by scoring a penalty in both halves, leading an improved Brazil to a commanding 4-0 victory over Peru in their South American World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday
Building on their 2-1 comeback victory over Chile last week, Brazil came out with more energy and dominated possession early on, sealing an emphatic performance with late goals from Andreas Pereira and Luiz Henrique. Brazil, who had previously lost four out of five qualifiers before their win in Chile, now sit fourth in the standings with 16 points from 10 matches, tied with third-placed Uruguay but behind on goal difference.
"We really needed this. Winning both games was crucial to getting back on track," Raphinha told Brazilian TV channel Globo. "We controlled both matches. It's far from perfect, but I believe we're moving in the right direction."
MATCH RECAP: BRA vs PER
Raphinha, after hitting the crossbar in the 24th minute, opened the scoring in the 38th minute with a penalty after Peru's Carlos Zambrano was penalized for handball. The Barcelona winger doubled Brazil's lead in the 54th minute, converting another penalty after Zambrano fouled Savinho in the box.
Substitute Andreas Pereira added Brazil's third with a spectacular acrobatic volley in the 72nd minute, finishing a cross from Luiz Henrique. Henrique himself capped off the dominant display two minutes later, driving a low shot from the edge of the box to secure the 4-0 win.
